I spent my 20s as an unhappy housewife. We lived in a little mountain village in Northern Italy and I spent my days at home watching television. Many, many brain cells were lost during those years. When I look back now, I can't believe that was me. I think fear played a big part in my staying all those years. Fear of the almighty unknown. But I was fast approaching my thirties and the thought of spending more years in a loveless marriage finally convinced me to take action.

I started a new life in my early 30s. Newly single, I moved to London and began a career in banking. I made use of my languages and for a while everything was exciting and new. I was happy to get up early, commute, and I even personalised my desk at work with photos and gadgets (very sad, I know....).

The novelty, however, wore off pretty quickly. I was becoming depressed and couldn't look at my future in a positive light. I was a shadow of my old happy self. I felt trapped and needed an outlet for my frustration. Wasn't there more to life than this?

What makes you happy?

I started thinking about what I truly loved doing. What made me happy? What did I see myself doing in 20 years? The answer came to me immediately, it was so simple. Cosmetics and helping women feel better about themselves!

I would create a website! This was the perfect solution for me. I could work at my own pace weekends and evenings. Write about the many years of experience buying, wearing, trying makeup on myself, family and friends, who all turn to me for cosmetics advice.

I also decided to attend part-time beauty school which I thoroughly enjoyed. Not really for the qualification but to learn new skills and talk, breathe and live makeup. Bliss!

This website is for "normal" beautiful women of all ages, who still want to look like themselves.....but at their very best!

Wouldn't it be wonderful to change the beauty industry and make the big brand companies cater to ordinary you-and-me-women of all ages. Because right now, they are speaking a foreign language, don't you think? A few companies have started to shift directions, like Bobbie Brown makeup, but there is still a lot to be done.

How did I build a website?

While browsing on youtube one day, I stumbled on a case study. Here was a man talking about how he had built a website on a topic he loved (party ideas for children) and he was earning a living through an information-only website. It sounded too good to be true so I let it go.


In Rome (Jul 07). It was 48 degrees C, my makeup melted!

But the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. When people look for information today, where do they go? That's right, the internet! The internet has become "the" global encyclopedia, "the" place to go for information.

So it mades sense to make money from an information only website! I could write about what I knew and loved and share my knowledge with the world. How wonderful.
